Open Door Church began in 1979 as a church plant from the Open Door Chapel of Virginia Beach. In 1980 Pastors Tony and Kathy Peaks moved to Suffolk as the pastors of ODC. The church met in a storefront for the first five years. Property was soon purchased and a sanctuary built, and after two expansions, the church now meets in its present facilities on Kings Fork Road. In 2020 the pastors celebrated 40 years of faithful service and continue to invest in the members of Open Door Church, the people of Suffolk and the surrounding communities.
Pastors Tony & Kathy Peaks
Co-Pastors
Pastor Tony Peaks, a native of North Carolina, and Pastor Kathy Peaks, a Pennsylvania native, met as students at Pinecrest Bible Training Center in Salisbury, New York. After graduation, they married and began serving at Cortland Full Gospel Church in Cortland, New York. However, they were soon on their way to Suffolk, Virginia to answer the call to lead a small group of believers at Open Door Church.
Pastor Tony Peaks earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Practical Theology from The International College of Bible Theology, and his Master’s Degree in Bible Theology from Midwest Theological Seminary. In 2003, he received an honorary Doctorate Degree from the Midwest Seminary of Bible Theology for his commitment and service in Leadership and Education and Missions. In addition to being head pastor here at Open Door Church, Pastor Tony also serves as sponsor to Harvest Christian Church’s Nairobi District in Kenya, a part of East African Ministries. His heart for developing leadership in the local church has given him the opportunity minister both locally and internationally at leadership seminars and numerous men’s retreats.
Pastor Kathy Peaks earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Practical Theology from the International College of Bible Theology, and her Master’s Degree in Bible Theology for her commitment and service in Leadership and Education. Pastor Kathy’s passion for studying and teaching the Bible has opened doors to speak to various congregations and women’s conferences. Along with her pastoral duties, Pastor Kathy currently serves as Director of Education and Community Life at Open Door Church.
