FINDING LOST COINS
“Or what woman, having ten silver coins, if she loses one coin, does not light a lamp and sweep the house and seek diligently until she finds it?And when she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found the coin that I had lost.’”
Luke 15:8-9 (ESV)
Early one morning I drove downtown to run an errand. As I parked my car I noticed an elderly man standing in front of the store. He was dressed in a worn out old suit. He just stood looking around. I couldn’t help but wonder about his life. It came to me that this man was the town drunk. In my head I heard “Talk to him.” The man started to walk away but then stopped. I prayed “Lord, if this is You, have this man go back to where he was standing.” In a moment this man went back to where he stood. I said “Lord, I don’t have my Bible with me or a Christian pamphlet to give to him.” Then these words came to me, “I have no silver and no gold but what I do have I give to you” (Acts 3:6). All God needed was for me to go. He would give me what to say. I proceeded out of my car and walked up to this man. I looked into his eyes and told him that God loved him. The man started to cry explaining that it was too late for him. I assured him it wasn’t too late, and that God loved him so much that He sent Jesus to dies for his sins. I was getting ready to pray for him when a young man from our church came walking up to us. I knew this was not by chance. I asked him if he would pray with us and he gladly joined in prayer. After prayer, this brother in Christ took the man to a Christian Center to get him a Bible.
This man was a lost coin. This man needed someone to stoop down and pick him up. Will you pick someone up today?
Practical Application: Be prayed-up and willing to reach out to all. God will give you boldness. Don’t be in such a hurry. Take note of the people around you. Ask God to lead you to someone who may need prayer.
