MATTERS OF THE HEART
“But the Lord said to Samuel, ‘Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: the man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.’” Samuel 16:7 (ESV)
Way too often we tend to make judgments about people and situations by what we see. Until we get to the heart of the matter many people are at best misunderstood or misjudged.
An old friend of mine went to buy a car. Because of what he was wearing he was bypassed and looked down upon by many of the sales people at the dealership. They did not know that he had already done his homework and knew exactly what car he wanted to buy and how much he should have to pay for it. Of all the salesmen only one of them gave him the time of day for he appeared to be a waste of time. As the two of them walked into the dealership’s office to negotiate, the other salesmen went about their business. When the two of them came out of the office my friend had purchased a brand new corvette and paid cash. In the world’s eyes we can “dress for success and learn how to win friends and influence people.” People look at what you do, but God looks at WHY you do it.
In II Chronicles 16:9 the bible tells us that God looks for hearts that are right before him so he can bless them. “For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to give strong support to those whose heart is blameless or whole towards him.” God is so for us! He looks to bless us!
Practical Application: Set aside some time to ponder in your heart how God has made you complete in him. Know that He is for you! He has redeemed you. He paid a great price for you. Repent of anything that the Holy Spirit of God would have to reject and be made whole!
