Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ …—Romans 5:1
It is not God’s will that any should perish, but that all would come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. The will of God towards man is not anger, wrath, or punishment. The will of God towards man is peace. On the night Christ was born, the message heralded to the shepherds keeping watch by the angels was “… on earth peace, good will towards man.”
God is continually extending to us His good will, as well as grace, favor, forgiveness, and friendship. We were alienated because of sin, but God offered us a precious gift—the gift of salvation through His Son, Jesus. God does not want to be our enemy but our Friend. We receive this olive branch from our Heavenly Father by accepting the gift of salvation by faith in Jesus. By faith we are introduced to God our Father. By faith, Jesus Christ the Good Shepherd leads us into peace. By faith Jesus the Door makes a way for us to enter into and enjoy that peace, and by faith Jesus our Lord and Master rules and reigns in our lives as the Prince of Peace.
By faith in Christ we have access to so many good things—all the grace and favor and loving-kindness our Father wants us to have. All the joys and pleasure and delight in every good and perfect gift He has to offer. God our Father is forever reaching out to us and extending. God our Father is opening His hand wide and giving—and heralding the good news that we are at peace with Him. And God our Father is speaking His word of blessing over us.
Father, this Christmas we celebrate the gift of salvation through Your Son, Jesus. We thank You that You have brought peace and friendship into our lives. We thank You for extending to us again and again Your loving Hand of provision and guidance, and You lend to us Your helping Hand today and always. We are thankful today that Your will towards us is good. Amen.
