For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.—2 Corinthians 4:6
Wow, what a statement by Apostle Paul, “For God, who commanded light to shine out of darkness.” This verse really puts forth what hope we have in God, a God who took the time to respond to a need that was beyond our ability to change. In our greatest and best attempts to rid the world of darkness or deal with darkness that is all around us daily, “He commanded the light to shine out of darkness”!
You see, this was the commissioning of Jesus. He came to the earth to be our HOPE! Israel surely thought this event of hope coming into the world to change the way things were would never really happen, so much so that when He actually came, they missed Him who came to be our Hope!
It is amazing to think that, while we live in a hopeless world—or it would seem a world without hope—spinning out of control, people all over are looking for ways to satisfy the needs of their hearts. They may run to drugs, alcohol, sex, or money to find the hope that they can only find in Jesus.
Many feel as if there is no hope for them, much the way I felt just prior to coming to Jesus. But the day hope entered in, light entered in, love entered in, freedom entered in, salvation entered in, and pushed out the darkness. That day hope turned me from a miserable, aimless person to a young man with hope and a different perspective on life. I wanted everyone to know about this hope. I told everyone I could. I told my dad, and he cursed me. I didn’t care … I had hope!
Hope will not let us down, but will shine into the darkest places and give light.
