To God our Savior, Who alone is wise, be glory and majesty … —Jude 1:25
Salvation is from God! From before the earth ever was formed, God had a plan and a provision for mankind. He knew from the beginning what man would do and what He would do to reconcile the errors of mankind. Jesus was the Lamb slain before the foundation of the world, because it was already planned out and already written. That is why Jude calls Him God our Savior.
But it is the next part of this verse that amazes me. He alone is wise. He alone. There is no one else who possesses the same level, the same depth, the same intricacies that His wisdom encompasses. Confucius was considered wise. Solomon was considered wise. But God is here spoken of as the only wise.
Let’s look at the meaning here of the word wise. It means a skilled expert, as a craftsman. It also means skilled in letters, cultivated and learned, referring to an orator, a philosopher, and a theologian. Another definition for wise is one who in action is governed by piety and integrity. And, finally, using the best plans and using the best means for their execution, that is, a suitable person to settle personal quarrels.
Wow. God alone is wise. God is a skilled expert who is fair, truthful, and trustworthy. He uses everything for the best possible outcome concerning us. That should encourage us and build so much hope in us that no matter what state we are in, or our family is in, or our nation is in, He alone is wise. He, in essence, is an expert at baffling cases. And Jude writes in verse 24 that He can keep us from falling, and He is committed to seeing us presented faultless—f-a-u-l-t-l-e-s-s—before His throne. For this reason, glory, dominion, power, and majesty belongs to Him, and Him alone both now, (praise Him now!) and forever! We will praise Him forever! Amen!
