… if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard, which was preached to every creature under heaven, of which I, Paul, became a minister. —Colossians 1:23
The word “if” implies this verse to be a condition of our final reward in Christ Jesus. Jesus will present us holy and blameless and beyond reproach to the Father “if” we embrace the gospel in its entirety.
The hope of the gospel, promised to us by God through the death and resurrection of His Son Jesus, is the resurrection of our own body and its glorification together with our soul and spirit. This promise comes with the condition that we are to “continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel.” It may seem a difficult task, but Jesus did not leave us on our own. He gave us the Spirit of truth to be our Helper.
We’ve received this precious hope of the gospel, which was preached to both Jews and Gentiles, through the Holy Spirit. This hope is available to all who believe and have come to know God. This hope gives us peace and assurance in knowing that our eternity is secure with Jesus. Because we believe that Jesus died and rose again, we can be confident that we, too, will be together with Him.
We are not to suffer as those who do not believe and have no hope. When our believing loved ones depart from this earth, we have peace and joy knowing we will be reunited. As Paul, let us also share and become ministers of this precious hope of the gospel.
